Campbellsville University president showcased in '20 People To Know'

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (06/28/2018) (readMedia)-- CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University's president, Dr. Michael V. Carter, has been featured in Louisville Business First special edition of '20 People To Know in Education.'

"Louisville Business First's 'People to Know' puts a spotlight each month on 20 area business professionals in a given industry," Louisville Business First, said.

The May edition was spotlighting the education industry.

"These are business people in key roles that are crucial. People featured run the gamut from behind-the-scenes movers and shakers to new leaders to up-and-comers in the industry," the special section said.

Carter has been in the education field for 43 years. He started his career as a teaching associate at Ohio State University, then moved to Judson College in Elgin, Ill., to be an instructor of sociology and director of Christian ministries. He was also the provost and vice president of academic affairs at Carson-Newman College.

After serving at Carson-Newman College for 14 years, Carter was named the president at Campbellsville University in 1999.

"Becoming president of Campbellsville University has been a great blessing in my life, and I am so honored to be named in the section," Carter said.

Carter found his calling at a young age, due to his parents.

"My home life had a tremendous influence on me. Both my parents were public school teachers. My mother started in a one-room school in Wayne County, W.Va. She had to drive the creek just the reach the school. Her passion for learning, and my father's discipline for getting it right, left an indelible impression. They both believed in the power of education and were examples of what they believed," Carter said.

Since Carter has become president, the university has seen growth in enrollment, which is now over 10,000 students, academic programs include 90 programs of study including one doctorate degree, 19 master's degrees, six postgraduate areas and seven pre-professional programs and new regional centers have been opened all over the country.

The university has off-campus centers in Kentucky cities Louisville, Harrodsburg, Somerset, Hodgenville and Liberty with instructional sites in Elizabethtown, Owensboro, Summersville, all in Kentucky, and one in Costa Mesa in California, and a full complement of online programs.
