Campbellsville University to present comic opera 'Gianni Schicchi' Nov. 21-23

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (11/13/2015)(readMedia)-- Campbellsville University will present the comic opera "Gianni Schicchi" (pronounced Johnny skee kee) by Puccini Nov. 21-23 in The Gheens Recital Hall, 210 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.

The production is free and open to the public. Seating will be open seating.

Dr. Mark Bradley, professor of music, said "This comedy performed in English is a great first opera to see and is also great for those who love comic opera."

"The story revolves around greedy relatives who want to find a way to change their departed uncle's will so they will get all of his money and possessions."

Performance times are 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21; 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22 and 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23.

The cast includes the following: Rafael Laurindo of Brazil as Gianni Schicchi; Colleen Ames of Elizabethtown, Ky., as Lauretta; Amelia Weber of Campbellsville, Ky., as Zita;

Kevin Durham of Campbellsville, Ky., as Rinuccio; Cedric Calhoun of Frankfort, Ky., as Gherardo; Esther Chan of Milaysa as Nella; Reece Durham of Campbellsville, Ky., as Gherardino; Mitchell Saget of Elizabethtown, Ky., as Betto; Bradley as Simone;

Yilun Liu of China, as Marco; Hyuk Ki Park of Korea as La Ciesca; Abbey Caudell of Frankfort, Ky., as Doctor Spinelloccio, Guccio and Buoso Donati; Tori Hester of Henderson, Ky., as Amantio (the lawyer); and Julianna Moura, assistant professor of voice, as Pinellino.

Bradley is directing the production with Moura assisting. Pianist for the production is Chai-Yin Chen of Taiwan. The production is about an hour in length.
