The New York State Canal Corporation today announced re-opening of a one-mile section of Canalway Trail near Trimmer Road in the Town of Ogden, Monroe County. The trail was temporarily closed as a safety precaution while maintenance and repairs were performed on an adjacent Erie Canal embankment.
Canal Corporation Carmella R. Mantello said, "We truly appreciate the public's patience during this temporary closure. More and more residents and visitors are utilizing the Canalway Trail as a year-long resource and destination. We always seek to minimize any inconvenience to trail users due to ongoing maintenance or repair work."
Another short-term trail closure in planned in the spring when Canal Corporation crews complete the embankment repairs. The Canal Corporation will coordinate the work schedule and the notification process with the Town of Ogden.
