ALBANY, NY (10/28/2008)(readMedia)-- Paula Stopera, a resident of Latham and president/CEO of Capital Communications Federal Credit Union (FCU) in Albany, NY was named 2008 Outstanding Professional by the Credit Union Association of New York at their 88th Annual Convention held recently in Niagara Falls, NY.

Outstanding Professional honors are awarded to individuals whose life's passion is credit unions, as demonstrated by hard work, dedication and success.

"Paula's devotion and leadership abilities have had a positive impact on Capital Communications and the communities it serves," said the Association's President/CEO William J. Mellin. She's also an ardent advocate of youth financial literacy and the credit union movement on local, state and federal levels."

Stopera was the credit union's ninth employee when she joined the credit union 28 years ago, taking the helm as president/CEO in 2004.

Under Stopera's leadership, Capital Communications membership has grown from 42,000 to 67,000; branch locations from three to nine; and assets have grown from $357 to $670 million. In 2007, she led the credit union through an ambitious expansion plan that included a merger with Excelsior CU and worked on another partnership resulting in the addition of Car Buyers Helpline, a CUSO that provides an innovative new service of car buying and negotiating to its members. Stopera was also a driving force for the credit union's sponsorship and participation in the New York Credit Union Foundation's brassçSTUDENT PROGRAM for high school students in New York State.
