DES MOINES, IA (07/30/2014)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Cecil Rueter of Grand Junction as an Iowan of the Day for the 2014 Iowa State Fair.
Rueter is known around Grand Junction as the quiet volunteer. He is the guy that gets the job done without anyone knowing. He is also the "go-to" guy for community upkeep, providing the equipment and manpower for any and all tasks that need to be completed around town. Co-founder of Rueter and Zenor Implement dealership, Rueter has built his business from the ground up, and still works there today. What started as a small store in Grand Junction has turned into collection of stores in Iowa and neighboring states. None of which could have been done without Rueter's hard work and determination.
"He is kind, wise, generous, savvy and fun to be around," said Grand Junction teacher and friend, Jan Scharingson. "He fits in wherever he goes and always has something to add to the conversation, but has the skill to move the conversation away from himself."
Rueter adds to conversations, and to the community, on a daily basis. He helps with 4-H, boy scouts, and church youth groups. He hosts a yearly golf outing for the Iowa State coaches and even helps out with the local gardening group, the Naked Ladies Garden club.
Rueter's day of recognition will be Tuesday, August 12, at the 2014 Iowa State Fair. Along with accommodations at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, he will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Rueter will also receive a special introduction on August 12, at 2:30 p.m. on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowan's across the state who have made a difference in others' lives, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $100 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
