Chris Fox Named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/31/2017) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Chris Fox of Johnston as an Iowan of the Day for the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

The U.S. Army was Chris's passion where he dedicated his time and commitment for 27 years, serving overseas and for the Drug Demand Reduction organization at Camp Dodge, educating youth how to stay or become drug free. In 2011 Command Sergeant Major Fox retired. However, his passion for serving his country and community didn't end there.

The U.S. Army led him to opportunities educating youth throughout Iowa about substance abuse prevention and taught various life skills. Chris was a key component to the creation of STARBASE, Stay on Track and other leadership skill programs that are being taught in Iowa schools. These programs have been recognized on a national level.

Along with serving our country, Chris has a passion for serving and caring for our environment. Much of his time the past ten years has been spent volunteering for Ducks Unlimited, which led him to becoming Chairman of Mid-Iowa Ducks Unlimited, and eventually district chairman.

Chris also has a passion for the Iowa State Fair and has been a volunteer for Blue Ribbon Foundation, selling water during the Fair, assisting with the annual Corndog Kickoff and driving the 1854 Society Shuttle for Fairgoers during the Fair.

"Chris's dedication to serving Iowa's communities through education, prevention and outreach has been an example for many who have tried to follow in his footsteps," says Master Sergeant Doug Kruse of Iowa Counterdrug Task Force.

Chris's day of recognition will be on Friday, August 18 at the 2017 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 2:30 P.M. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, he will receive a gift bag, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in others' lives, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.

The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated more than $135 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
