Fourteen students from Cazenovia College will attend the Annual Mid-Atlantic Consortium for Human Services (MACHS), hosted by Corning Community College in Corning, N.Y. in early April. The conference is focused on "Supporting, Connecting and Strengthening Human Services in the 21st Century."

The students attend workshops throughout the day on a variety of topics related to their specializations. Two students are speakers and another will have a poster presentation at the conference. Professor Mary Handley, director of Cazenovia College's Human Services Program, says, "These students, presenters and attendees alike, are highly motivated to help improve the lives of their fellow human beings."

Among the students is Cierra E. Daily, of Theresa, N.Y., a senior who is working toward a bachelor of science degree in human services specializing in services for alcohol and substance abuse. Daily says, "I am presenting on the subject of adult children of alcoholics and the dysfunctional lifestyles they have in adulthood, due to the dysfunctional lifestyles they had during childhood. People sometimes think alcoholics harm only themselves and are the only ones who need professional help, but that is not the case; family members need professional help as well because they suffer a lot due to their parents' alcohol abuse."

Handley noted how important this conference can be to the future careers of her students, saying, "The conference not only provides a professional and learning experience for them; they are able to meet students from five different states who are all studying to be human services professionals. They will return from the conference motivated and energized to continue to make change and improve people's lives."
