ALBANY, NY (04/02/2015)(readMedia)-- CLARENCE, N.Y. – Clarence Community and Schools Federal Credit Union received a national Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for their work with Hunter's Hope Foundation. The second-place award was presented last month during the Credit Union National Association's Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C. The credit union advanced to the national award ceremony after winning a state-level award last year from the New York Credit Union Association. The Dora Maxwell awards are presented to credit unions that display outstanding social responsibility projects in their communities. The award is named after credit union pioneer Dora Maxwell, who was known as a tireless advocate for the poor. "We are truly humbled to receive this prestigious recognition," said Marsha Brauer, CEO and manager of the Clarence-based credit union. "Social responsibility is an integral part of the credit union movement. Every day, credit unions throughout the country do great things in their local communities. To be recognized as one of the most socially responsible credit unions in the nation is truly an honor." Clarence Community and Schools FCU received praise for partnering with the locally based Hunter's Hope Foundation, which is dedicated to raising awareness about a group of rare genetic disorders that affect the central nervous system known as Leukodystrophy. The credit union helped to raise money for the foundation by "selling" paper heart icons to members and soliciting gift baskets from local businesses that were raffled off during the Hunter's Hope Foundation's annual Every Step walk. Clarence Community and Schools Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit, member-owned and operated financial institution established to meet the needs of its members and their families. The credit union serves 3,000 members and has more than $20 million in assets. To learn more, visit: www.ccsfcu.com/.
