Clarence Community & Schools FCU receives statewide community service award

ALBANY, N.Y. – Clarence Community & Schools Federal Credit Union received the New York Credit Union Association's prestigious Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award during NYCUA's 2015 Annual Meeting and Convention, held June 11-14 in Bolton Landing, New York. The Clarence-based credit union received the statewide award in the asset category of $5 million-$20 million and will now advance to the Credit Union National Association's national competition.

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award honors credit unions that strengthen local institutions and materially improve the lives of non-members through community outreach programs other than financial education.

In 2014, the credit union became a drop-off site for the Clarence Food Pantry, which serves more than 75 families in the western New York town. Credit union members were encouraged to drop off non-perishable items-as well as appliances and other large items-at Clarence Community & Schools FCU's branch. The items were then collected by a credit union member and brought to the pantry for donation.

The New York Credit Union Association has served as the trade association for the state's credit unions for 98 years. With more than 5 million memberships, New York credit union assets total more than $70 billion. To learn more about NYCUA, visit www.nycua.org.
