AUGUSTA, ME (11/20/2015)(readMedia)-- Brig. Gen. Gerard F. Bolduc, the acting Adjutant General for the Maine National Guard, received a check for over ten thousand dollars from Colby Football Appreciation today at Camp Keyes, Augusta. The money will be used for the Maine National Guard program "Christmas Across Maine".

Over the past three years, Colby Football has raised over twenty thousand dollars for the program through crowd funding, t-shirt sales and donations accepted at games. Henry Holmes, a senior at Colby and a member of the football team, presented the check and said he hopes they can continue to support the program in the future.

Tracy Richard, the Maine Guard Family Assistance Center coordinator, said they were thrilled to receive the money and it will help increase the number of military families that they can provide assistance.

"Last year, Christmas Across Maine helped 114 families with some type of assistance in the form of food, fuel, Christmas gifts, emergency home repairs, or anything that could provide relief to service members in need," said Richard.

All of the assistance provided to service members is done through donations and corporate sponsorship. "We have already received a lot of requests through our website, so we can tell that it is a hard year for some. This money we will be able to provide some relief," said Richard.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a family, or who is a service member in need, can go to www.jointservicessupport.org and complete a Christmas Across Maine 2015 application, or complete a sponsor application.
