College of Mount Saint Vincent Students Present on Alternative Spring Break Trip to Appalachia May 17, 2012
RIVERDALE, NY (05/01/2012)(readMedia)-- College of Mount Saint Vincent students will participate in the College of Mount Saint Vincent Student Research and Service Symposium at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 17th in Smith Hall, Founders Hall, on the College's Riverdale campus.
At the Symposium, they will present on their service learning trip to the Appalachian region of Kentucky, which took place from March 11-19, 2012.
The students who attended are: Nestor Gonzalez, a junior history major from Bronx, N.Y.; Anastasia Knapp, a junior nursing major from Stamford, Conn.; Angeline Malave, a sophomore nursing major from Bronx, N.Y.; Daniel Nava, a sophomore biology major from Bronx, N.Y.; Christina Quinn, a junior nursing major from Maywood, N.J.; and Jaymee Wilson, a sophomore biology major from Sulpher Springs, Texas.
Collaborating with the Christian Appalachia Project (CAP) in rural Kentucky, the above students of the College of Mount Saint Vincent volunteered 255 hours of service in March as part of an Alternative Spring Break sponsored by the Office of Campus Ministry.
Partnering with colleges and universities nationwide, each student assisted families in desperate need. Activities included: installing decks, insulation, and vinyl siding, and putting on a new roof to ensure that the residents remain safe, warm, and dry.
The College of Mount Saint Vincent Student Research and Service Symposium is held to recognize students who have engaged in significant research and service initiatives, as well as the faculty and staff who serve as their mentors. Students will have the opportunity to present and highlight their recent research and service accomplishments to the campus community along with College benefactors, peers, parents, and local guidance counselors and principals.
