College of Mount Saint Vincent Students Present on Seton Service & Leadership Program May 17, 2012
RIVERDALE, NY (05/01/2012)(readMedia)-- College of Mount Saint Vincent students will participate in the College of Mount Saint Vincent Student Research and Service Symposium at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 17th in Smith Hall, Founders Hall, on the College's Riverdale campus.
At the Symposium, they will present on their first year as Seton Service & Leadership Scholars at the College of Mount Saint Vincent. This year, the College welcomed its first class of Seton Scholars, who are named for Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, and are funded by the Sisters of Charity, New York.
The scholars are dedicated to pursuing academic excellence; committing to service, and preparing to be leaders on and off campus. Each Seton Scholar has volunteered in various capacities the past academic year. Volunteer activities that they have performed include: working with the homeless in Manhattan; volunteering with at-risk youth in the Bronx; and building homes for families in Paterson, New Jersey. This year, the Seton Scholars logged 475 hours of community service, while maintaining an overall GPA of 3.61.
The inaugural group of Seton Scholars are: Adam Derouin, a freshman from Rumford, R.I.;
Celine Florentino: a freshman biology major from South River, N.J.; Amy Fox, a freshman psychology major from Floral Park, N.Y.; Shannon Koch, a sophomore business major from Kings Park, N.Y.; Marisa Rosario, a freshman nursing major from White Plains, N.Y.;
Ciara Rosa, a freshman from Bronx, N.Y.; and James Wilkins, a freshman communication major from S. Dartmouth, Mass.
The College of Mount Saint Vincent Student Research and Service Symposium is held to recognize students who have engaged in significant research and service initiatives, as well as the faculty and staff who serve as their mentors. Students will have the opportunity to present and highlight their recent research and service accomplishments to the campus community along with College benefactors, peers, parents, and local guidance counselors and principals.
