James Mitchell honored by College of Notre Dame of Maryland

BALTIMORE, MD (03/07/2011)(readMedia)-- James Mitchell, interim director of campus operations, received the 2011 Distinguished Staff Award from College of Notre Dame of Maryland at the school's annual Notre Dame Day celebration.

"Jim and his team have created the best and most professional safety and security department the College has ever enjoyed," said Mary Pat Seurkamp, president of Notre Dame, as she presented the award. "He steps up to any challenge, anticipates what assistance might be needed, and does it all with a sense of humor."

The Distinguished Staff Award is chosen annually by Notre Dame faculty and staff to honor a peer who exhibits outstanding competence and performance in his or her area of responsibility; accepts challenges beyond the expected; responds consistently with a positive attitude; serves the community in a gracious manner; empowers others with the Notre Dame spirit; and contributes to the mission of the College.

A resident of Phoenix, Md., Mr. Mitchell joined College of Notre Dame as director of campus security in 2006, after a 30-year career with the Baltimore County Police Department. In 2010, he served as president of the Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (ACLEA) for the Chesapeake Region. In October 2010, he was appointed to his current position, providing management oversight of the buildings and grounds, engineering, and housekeeping departments, in addition to security and transportation.
