Commander of Digital Liaison Detachment is promoted to colonel

SPRINGFIELD, IL (07/11/2014)(readMedia)-- SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Byron Lloyd III of Springfield, Illinois, was promoted to the rank of colonel during a promotion ceremony at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois, July 11.

In 1984, Lloyd began his career as a combat engineer with the 233rd Engineer Company in Marseilles, Illinois, for six years. Lloyd achieved the rank of staff sergeant before attending officer candidate school. He received his commission as an engineer officer in August 1991.

He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College and has a Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Springfield, Illinois.

In December 2001, he deployed with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 66th Infantry Brigade as part of Task Force Santa Fe. On this deployment, Lloyd served as the task force liaison officer at the command headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany. He deployed again in March 2008 to Afghanistan as the explosive hazards coordination cell commander, tracking improvised explosive devices.

Lloyd's assignments include line platoon leader, heavy equipment platoon leader and company executive officer with the 233rd Engineer Company in Marseilles, Illinois. In March he was selected as the commander for the 244th Digital Liaison Detachment in Chicago.
