Common Cause/NY Calls for Investigation into Allegations of Unethical Conduct by Chris Collins

Government Watchdog Says House Committee on Ethics Should Do Its Job

NEW YORK, NY (10/13/2017) (readMedia)-- In response to the recent news that Representative Chris Collins of New York may have violated federal law by sharing nonpublic information about a company on whose board he served, Common Cause/NY Executive Director Susan Lerner issued the following statement:

"It is past time for Chris Collins to put legitimate questions regarding his conduct to rest and stop impeding the investigation which would provide his constituents with answers. The people of Western New York deserve to know that their representatives in Congress aren't using their hard earned tax dollars to game the system for personal gain. We strongly urge the House Committee on Ethics to open a formal investigation and issue subpoenas to provide the public with the information they require to hold their elected officials properly accountable. This case further demonstrates the importance of the independent Office of Congressional Ethics so that House Members can't be both the judge and jury for their peers."
