NEW YORK, NY (09/15/2017) (readMedia)-- Yesterday, Governor Cuomo responded to a question about low voter turn-out in Tuesday's primary elections, saying "it's just democracy."
Susan Lerner, Executive Director of Common Cause/NY responded:
"New York State ranks 41st in the nation for voter turn-out, so it's strange to see our normally ambitious Governor apathetic in the face of such abysmal numbers. This is not "just democracy"; New Yorkers want and deserve accessible elections and should not have to settle for less. Right now the Governor could take steps to implement automatic voter registration without requiring legislation and help bring New York in line with states like Connecticut and Colorado that have done so administratively. It's up to him."
