Community Care Physicians, PC Named Official Reference Site for Electronic Health Record

LATHAM, NY (02/27/2008)(readMedia)-- Allscripts, the nation’s leading provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions, has named Community Care Physicians, PC an official reference site and “best practice” user of the Touchworks Electronic Health Record (EHR). As such, Community Care will serve as a demonstration site for practice’s who are considering adoption of an EHR.

Community Care has been a user of the EHR for 2 ½ years. After several evaluations of various systems, they began implementation of the Allscripts system in January 2005. With over 35 offices and more than 200 physicians, Community Care is the first and largest practice to use this electronic communication system in the Capital District.

“This is recognition of our expertise and pioneering leadership in the field of EHR,” said Barbara Morris, MD, Chief Medical Officer for Community Care and practicing pediatrician. “We have worked with Allscripts on customizing the system to our patient’s needs.”

All of the providers at Community Care utilize the Electronic Health Record, reducing the complexity of paper-based charts. The EHR assists physicians in collecting, evaluating and documenting information regarding medical care via a computer, allowing providers to share information in real time with the highest level of confidentiality. The Community Care organization is connected with the Pharmacy Health Information Exchange (Surescripts) which facilitates the electronic transmission of prescription information between physicians and pharmacies. The shared EHR network allows providers to access imaging reports, consults, and referrals whenever needed, enabling a more efficient medical organization.

"Community Care is committed to making healthcare more efficient and effective for our patients, and the implementation of the EHR was the best way to do this," said Dr. Morris. Furthermore, there is a support system in place, from corporate trainers, an implementation team, technological support, and compliance, to maintain the effectiveness of this system.

This state of the art electronic system provides important information to Community Care doctors and thereby supports personalized care to their patients. All of this enables Community Care Physicians to continually enhance healthcare quality in the Capital Region.
