Community Care Physicians, PC Receives Community Mentor Award from American Cancer Society
LATHAM, NY (05/20/2008)(readMedia)-- The American Cancer Society (ACS) awarded Community Care Physicians, PC the “Community Mentor Award” at their annual Gala of Hope on Saturday, May 17, 2008, recognizing Community Care’s special contributions and efforts of volunteers in health initiatives, particularly in raising awareness of breast cancer.
The opportunities that Community Care has had to collaborate with the American Cancer Society include: flagship sponsorship of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer for 5 years; cancer awareness events to benefit Making Strides against Breast Cancer; helping to establish the Harold L Bloch Cancer Resource Center in their Latham location; hosting educational sessions/events on cancer topics including Man to Man support group meetings; and implementing a prostate screening program, ScreenSavers, that screened 1366 men over 120 events.
Community Care recognizes the need to focus resources not only on treating and preventing illnesses but also on promoting health awareness through educational events, programs, community outreach and partnerships. Among the illnesses that Community Care’s patients all too frequently confront are cancers. Partnering with the American Cancer Society enables them to further education, research, and support in the fight against this formidable disease.
Community Care has a large geographical footprint that facilitates raising awareness of cancer, early detection, and the importance of prevention. As a large, multi-specialty medical group in the Capital Region, Community Care has the ability to reach approximately a quarter million patients in a given year and more than one thousand employees company wide.
“As a healthcare organization, it is our responsibility to raise awareness of health issues to empower those in the community to take a proactive role in their own well being,” said Barbara Morris, MD, Chief Medical Officer and practicing Pediatrician at Community Care Pediatrics in Saratoga. “The work of the American Cancer Society reinforces what Community Care Physicians is all about - emphasizing wellness, health education and preventive care.”
With the support and dedication of the American Cancer Society, Community Care will confidently continue in the quest to conquer cancer.
