NEW STANTON, PA (08/24/2010)(readMedia)-- The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission alerts motorist traveling on Freeport Road (State Route 1001) that they will encounter a detour near the Allegheny Valley Interchange (Exit 48) in Harmar Township, Allegheny County. Freeport Road will be closed for 36 hours from the interchange to a half mile north between 6 a.m. Aug. 28 until 6 p.m. Aug. 29.
This detour will be in effect for motorists exiting the Turnpike heading north on Freeport Road toward Springdale and for motorist traveling south from Springdale on Freeport Road to enter the Turnpike. Motorist exiting the Turnpike heading south on Freeport Road toward Pittsburgh and traffic entering the Turnpike from Freeport Road from Pittsburgh will not be effected.
The detour will allow the contractor, Walsh Construction, to remove portions of the piers of the old Allegheny River Bridge.
The posted detour will redirect traffic over Freeport Road (State Route 1001) to State Route 910 to State Route 28 to State Route 366 (Tarentum Exit) back onto Freeport Road. Access to Denny Estates will be maintained during this period.
