LATHAM, NY (05/01/2015)(readMedia)-- Scotia resident Corine Lombardo, a veteran of the Iraq War, has been promoted to Sergeant Major in the New York Army National Guard.

Lombardo is a 32-year veteran of the Active Army and the New York Army National Guard and serves as the Public Affairs Chief for the New York National Guard's public affairs office.

During her career Lombardo has served in the 42nd Infantry Division Public Affairs section, and the Joint Force Headquarters Public Affairs section in all non-commissioned officer positions.

In 2005 she served as chief public affairs non-commissioned officer for Task Force Liberty, a force of 23,000 Soldiers in north central Iraq led by the New York National Guard's 42nd Infantry Division from Tikrit Iraq.

She has led public affairs teams and missions in Germany, Japan, Australia, Indonesia, Trinidad, Italy, and South Africa and has also led public affairs teams covering domestic operations missions across New York to include the response to the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, the 1998 ice storm in northern New York and Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

She has been a full-time employee of the New York Army National Guard since 1986, specializing in media relations, environmental community relations and photo/broadcast journalism.

Her military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon.

She was inducted into the New York State Veterans Hall of Fame in 2012 and graduated from the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy in 2013.

She serves as the volunteer Executive Director for Patriot Hills of New York, a 501c3 focusing on veterans' reintegration, and is a former President of the Enlisted Association of the New York National Guard and volunteer for the Friends of the Schenectady County Public Library.

She holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Organizational Management from Nyack College.

She and her husband Randy have a daughter, Sabrina, and a granddaughter Kristen.
