PHILADELPHIA, PA (03/21/2012)(readMedia)-- Cranford resident Jill Feeney of Saint Joseph's University's Haub School of Business earned first place in the Delaware Valley Risk Management and Insurance Society's (RIMS) annual college essay competition on March 20. Feeney was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
All entrants were asked to respond to a question regarding social media's impact on risk management, a topic that Jean Heck, Ph.D., Brian C. Duperreault '69 Chair for Risk Management and Insurance at Saint Joseph's, says is relevant to future risk managers.
"Everybody is doing social media today, but social media exposes people to a lot of risks that haven't been seen before and aren't as easy to anticipate," says Heck. "The questions become 'How do we separate business from social media?' and 'How do we account for personal social media use that might reflect poorly on the greater organization?'"
The contest is hosted by RIMS each year in an effort to encourage student involvement in the society.
