ALBANY, NY (07/30/2009)(readMedia)-- Over 550 credit unionists and vendors will converge on Saratoga Springs Sunday, Aug. 2 to attend the credit union industry's biggest event in the state: the Credit Union Association of New York's annual Convention.
The Convention will take place at the Saratoga Hilton and run through Wednesday, August 5.
Kicking off the event on Sunday will be a golf tournament at the Saratoga Spa Golf Club to benefit the New York Credit Union Foundation. The Foundation, the charitable arm of the Association, serves credit unions, schools and community organizations that help improve the financial literacy and independence of New Yorkers.
This year's Convention attendees will hear from three inspiring keynote speakers: Richard Picciotto, FDNY Battalion Commander and the highest ranking firefighter to survive the World Trade Center Collapse; Pete Crear, president/CEO of the World Council of Credit Unions; and, in celebration of credit union's 100-year anniversary, Kathy Pelletier, granddaughter of credit union movement pioneer Roy F. Bergengren.
Other Convention highlights include a Monday afternoon outing at the Saratoga Race Track, numerous education sessions, networking opportunities, a vendor EXPO, our awards luncheon and more.
"Convention always provides our credit unions with an opportunity to reconnect and recharge," said William J. Mellin, president and CEO of the Association. "This year's theme, Credit Unions: In the Winner's Circle, seems extremely fitting given the increased, positive visibility credit unions have experienced over the past year."
The Credit Union Association of New York has served as the trade association for the state's credit unions for 92 years. It is the fourth largest association in the country. New York credit unions have assets of more than $44 billion and 4.3 million members. To learn more about the Association, visit www.cuany.org.
