Credit union volunteer Mary Bishop honored with statewide award
(Albany, N.Y.) – Longtime credit union volunteer Mary Bishop was recently honored with the New York Credit Union Association's statewide Outstanding Volunteer Award. The award honors volunteers who exemplify commitment to their credit unions, consistently embodying the "people helping people" philosophy and promoting the success of their credit union and their members. The award was presented to Bishop on June 13 during NYCUA's Annual Meeting and Convention in Bolton Landing.
Mary Bishop has been a member of Ulster Federal Credit Union's board of directors since 1989. She has served as board chairwoman since 2007, and previously served as vice chair. She took the reins as board chair after the previous chair passed away unexpectedly, and helped guide the credit union through a seamless transition.
During her time leading the board, Bishop implemented an important committee restructuring process that played directly to each board members' individual strengths. She has also helped ensure that each board meeting runs in a productive and timely manner by encouraging board members to pursue educational and development opportunities.
The New York Credit Union Association has served as the trade association for the state's credit unions for 98 years. With more than 5 million memberships, New York credit union assets total more than $70 billion. To learn more about NYCUA, visit www.nycua.org.
