ALBANY, NY (06/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Darien Lakes State Park will officially open the newest disc golf course in Western New York, the Angry Apple Disc Golf Course, on Saturday, June 16th with a grand opening ceremony planned at 10:45 a.m. at the park. Opening ceremonies will include more than 60 area disc golfers from throughout Western New York playing two rounds at the Angry Apple Disc Golf Course, the first course in Genesee County.
Pre-registration for those interested in joining the inaugural round is available at the park contact station from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. with fees ranging from $20 for the open division, $15 for amateurs and $10 for beginners. Complimentary disks will be given to all players at this event. The park vehicle access fee of $7 is in effect but the beach will also be open from 11 a.m. until 6:45 p.m. for a full day of fun. Camping is also available and can be reserved at www.nysparks.com.
Disc golf is a sport based loosely on the rules of golf; however, disc golfers aim specially designed discs for driving, approaching and even putting. There are more than approximately 10,000 disc golfers in Western New York. The course in just 35 minutes from Buffalo and approximately 40 minutes from Rochester.
