Delhi Ranks in Top 20 "Best for Vets"

DELHI, NY (12/18/2012)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi is ranked No. 17 on the "Best for Vets: Career and Technical Colleges" list in the 2013 "Best for Vets" by Military Times. This ranking comes on the heels of the college being named "Military Friendly" by G.I. Jobs magazine for the second consecutive year.

"To be vet-friendly, you really need to focus on the needs of the student, which is what SUNY Delhi does so well," said Michele DeFreece, director of the Resnick Learning Center/EOP/Veterans at SUNY Delhi. "All of our areas-whether it is enrollment services, financial aid or academics-promote a seamless process for our student veterans."

SUNY Delhi was among more than 650 schools that responded to the magazine's survey, which consisted of nearly 150 questions. Delhi was scored based on its demonstration of specific efforts to accommodate vets and active-duty service members in areas that they value most in a college or university. Top areas included:

• Accepting the American Council on Education credits, which convert military training into academic hours

• Waiving late fees for students whose military education benefits arrive late, advancing credit toward books and other expenses, or helping students find emergency money

• Offering online degree programs, which can be crucial for deployed troops

SUNY Delhi's Veteran Services recently hosted a panel presentation "SUNY Delhi Salutes Veterans" in conjunction with the college's Alumni Association. The presentation connected alumni veterans with student veterans to promote their college success.
