AUGUSTA, ME (07/11/2017) (readMedia)-- Brig Gen Douglas A. Farnham, The Adjutant General for the Maine National Guard, announced that Detachment 3, 2nd Battalion, 641st Aviation Regiment (Theater) (OSACOM) will be deploying this fall.
OSACOM is a small, Bangor based unit that operate a small fixed wing aircraft known as a C-12. Their mission is to provide high priority, short notice air transport to passengers and cargo movement for all Army components and members of the Department of Defense.
Continuing Maine's great tradition of supporting our nation's call to duty, OSACOM will deploy to Southwest Asia to perform this mission in the region.
OSACOM is comprised of approximately 8 Soldiers who specialize in aerial transportation and conduct multiple training and real world transportation missions every year. These missions prepare the unit for a mobilization and help them maintain their proficiency as pilots and crew members.
The unit mobilized three times since 2003, twice to Afghanistan and once to Iraq.
The leadership of the Maine National Guard is committed to ensuring the unit receives the best training to prepare for this deployment, and commanders build training plans so that units are well trained and prepared for a mobilization at any time.
