Dixon Soldier promoted to first sergeant

DIXON, IL (08/14/2018) (readMedia)-- Joshua C. Wittenauer of Dixon, Illinois, was promoted to the rank of first sergeant during a promotion ceremony at the National Guard Armory in Dixon, Illinois, August 10.

Wittenauer enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard in July 1995 as a stinger missile gunner in Battery C, 1st Battalion, 202nd Air Defense Artillery in Dixon, Illinois. In August 2001, he was selected for a full-time Illinois Army National Guard position as a Training NCO in Galva, Illinois.

Wittenauer deployed to Iraq in 2004 to 2005 with Foxtrot Battery, 202nd Air Defense Artillery, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon his return from Iraq, Wittenauer was selected as a recruiter for Team 6 in Dixon, Illinois.

Prior to his promotion, Wittenauer served as the Delta Company, Recruiting and Retention Battalion team leader based in Aurora and is now assigned as the Delta Company first sergeant.
