Dr. Galen Carey to speak at Campbellsville University

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY (02/13/2015)(readMedia)-- Dr. Galen Carey, vice president of government relations for the National Association of Evangelicals, will speak at Campbellsville University's Kentucky Heartland Institute on Public Forum on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m. in the Banquet Hall in the Badgett Academic Support Center.

He will also be speaking on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. at Campbellsville University's chapel program in the Ransdell Chapel.

Everyone is invited to both programs which are free of charge.

"Galen Carey is one of the foremost public policy advocates among evangelical Christians," Dr. John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president, said.

"He is actively engaged, on behalf of evangelicals around the country, in the dialogue on a number of issues at the national and international levels. Dr. Carey also interacts with many of the top leaders in our nation's capital on a regular basis."

Chowning said the university is "very pleased to have Galen visiting our campus and community and know that he will do a wonderful job in discussing the intersection of our Christian faith and contemporary public policy issues."

As vice president of the NAE, a United States based-organization, Carey is responsible for representing the NAE before Congress, the White House and the courts. He works to advance the principles of the NAE document "For the Health of the Nation: An Evangelical Call to Civic Responsibility."

Before he started working at the NAE, Carey was a longtime employee of World Relief, the relief and development arm of the NAE. He led the evangelical voice on refugee, immigration and international relief and development issues. He worked on reconstructing houses, rehabilitation and community health projects.

Carey was recently in Bujumbura, Burundi and worked as the regional program advisor for the World Relief Great Lakes Region. He worked to establish an HIV/AIDS network.

In November 2009, Carey signed an ecumenical statement known as the Manhattan Declaration calling on evangelicals, Catholics and Orthodox not to comply with rules and laws permitting abortion, same-sex marriage and other matters that go against their religious consciences.

In 2009 Carey was named to the Trinity International University's Wall of Honor.
