DELHI, NY (04/25/2017) (readMedia)-- Dr. Michael R. Laliberte will be inaugurated as SUNY Delhi's 10th president on May 5 at 1 p.m. at the Clark Field House in a ceremony conducted by SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Laliberte, who became SUNY Delhi president on July 21, 2016, has been recognized as an inspirational, transformative and student-centered leader throughout his 20-year career in public higher education.

"From his first day on campus, Dr. Laliberte has been passionate about creating an educational environment that supports applied learning and student success," said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. "His vision, commitment to innovation and dedication to students has positioned SUNY Delhi to be a leader in meeting the educational and workforce needs of the Empire State and the local region."

To learn about the college's history, culture, and aspirations, Dr. Laliberte devoted his first semester to a 28-stop listening tour, meeting with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community residents. The sessions led him to envision the mission of SUNY Delhi as an "applied learning community where student success is our most important outcome."

To achieve that goal, his initial priorities are to develop a campus-wide strategic plan and a comprehensive fund-raising campaign, providing the direction and resources required to further develop the unique learning environment at SUNY Delhi which enables students to "Dream. Discover. Do." His May 5 inauguration will cap two weeks of celebration, including events that honor the college, its history, and the entire SUNY Delhi community. The Inauguration ceremony will be opened by the Catskill Brass Quintet under the direction of Carleton Clay, followed by greetings from students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Michael R. Lovell, President of Marquette University, will deliver the Presidential Greetings and SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher will perform the Investiture. Dr. Laliberte will then deliver his inaugural address.

The event will be taped for airing on Delhi Telephone's public access channel 10.

Prior to leading SUNY Delhi, Dr. Laliberte served as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and as Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Boise State University. In those positions, he led efforts that increased undergraduate enrollment, improved student retention rates, created living-learning communities, expanded civic engagement, and secured funds to improve facilities and services for all students. Dr. Laliberte holds a bachelor's degree in Human Development, Counseling and Family Studies from the University of Rhode Island, a master's degree in College Student Development and Counseling from Northeastern University and a doctorate in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from Johnson and Wales University. He also holds an advanced certificate in fundraising management from the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.
