DuPont Community CU Honored for Homebuying Seminars
LYNCHBURG, VA (12/22/2011)(readMedia)-- DuPont Community Credit Union (DCCU) has won 1st Place honors in the Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action competition. The competition honors credit unions for their practical application of the "People-Helping-People" philosophy that is the hallmark of the credit union movement. It is sponsored by the Virginia Credit Union League and the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).
The credit union was honored for free workshops it offered to consumers on homebuying in today's market. The workshops provided information on the home loan process, evaluating the different types of mortgage loans, and working with realtors.
"The process of buying a home can often be confusing and time consuming, especially in today's market, so we created and held free workshops that offered consumers unbiased information designed to help them make informed choices," said DuPont Community Credit Union President/CEO Gerald Hershey. "Everyone's budget, needs and situation are different; the homebuying process cannot be a one-size-fits-all proposition and it really boils down to doing your homework."
Through the workshops, DCCU was able to directly help 46 consumers with information on the homebuying process, but it also reached more than 16,000 members with the message that the credit union is a trusted source for information on the homebuying process and for mortgage loans.
DCCU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative and was founded in 1959. The Credit Union currently has over 59,000 members, and over $781 million in assets. DCCU operates nine branches in the Central Shenandoah Valley region. For more information visit our website at www.mydccu.com.
The competition is named after Louise McCarren Herring, a credit union pioneer, who believed that the operational application of credit union philosophy helped better people's lives.
