NEW STANTON, PA (06/17/2011)(readMedia)-- Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission representatives will be available for E-ZPass sign-ups at the California Mainline Toll Plaza at Milepost 35 on the Mon-Fayette Expressway (Turnpike 43) in eastern Washington County from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. June 23, 24 and June 28 ,29.
Customers will leave with an E-ZPass transponder they can use immediately on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and in 13 surrounding states (http://www.paturnpike.com/ezpass/pdf/IAG_E-ZPASS_MAP.pdf) where the purple and white E-ZPass logo is displayed. To enroll, a customer must provide a valid driver license, license plate number(s) and a major credit card.
The transponder is mounted on the windshield and sends a signal to an overhead reader in the toll lane. The devices interact to classify vehicles and deduct appropriate fares from pre-paid accounts while drivers keep moving.
It costs as little as $41 per transponder to open a pre-paid E-ZPass account, $6 will be assessed for the initial annual fee, with $35 available for tolls. It is most convenient to pay by credit or debit card and authorize automatic replenishment when your pre-paid balance reaches $10. Transponders can be moved between vehicles registered to that account.
If customers can't stop by the plaza, they can enroll through the Turnpike's website at www.paturnpike.com, by calling toll-free 1-877-736-6727, by visiting any American Automobile Association (AAA) office in the region, or by obtaining
E-ZPass "GoPaks" at participating Giant Eagle and GetGo stores, and at vending machines located at various PA Turnpike Travel Plazas. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's Western Regional Office in New Stanton, PA also offers instant sign-ups (Mon. through Fri.) from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
