EPL/Environmental Advocates to Present Top Honors to Assembly Member Lifton as NY's Greenest Legislator

ALBANY, NY (10/18/2011)(readMedia)-- EPL/Environmental Advocates will present New York State Assembly member Barbara Lifton (D-Ithaca) with its 2011 "Legislator of the Year" award at noon on Wednesday, October 19, at the Six Mile Creek Vineyard in Ithaca, NY. The group selected Assembly member Lifton as its top green pick this year for her work to protect New York's waters and communities from industrial gas drilling by means of high volume hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking." Legislator of the Year honors are awarded to the public figure who has helped advance environmentally beneficial legislation. The award is part of EPL's annual Voters' Guide, which is the only scorecard that documents the environmental voting records of the State Legislature.

WHO:

EPL/Environmental Advocates’ Executive Director Robert Moore will present the award to Assembly member Barbara Lifton.

WHAT:

For many New Yorkers, learning how state lawmakers voted on environmental issues such as regulations to guide and limit industrial gas drilling, environmental funding to protect air and water quality, and efforts to reduce climate-altering pollution, plays a critical role in decisions made on Election Day. For more than 40 years, EPL/Environmental Advocates has documented the voting records of state legislators in New York’s first-and-only environmental Voters’ Guide.
