Educators recommend Patty Judge to serve the people of Iowa in the U.S. Senate

DES MOINES, IA (06/29/2016)(readMedia)-- Washington-The National Education Association's political action committee, the NEA Fund for Children and Public Education, voted to recommend Patty Judge to represent the Hawkeye State in the United States Senate.

"Educators support Patty Judge to represent the great state of Iowa in Washington," said NEA President Lily Eskelsen García. "Given her commitment to students and public education, we believe that Patty will do what is best for all of the children of the state of Iowa regardless of the ZIP code in which they live. She knows that when children have a fair chance, we not only create stronger public schools, we create a stronger country. We are proud to recommend Patty Judge for the U.S. Senate."

A life-long Iowan, Patty Judge has served Iowans in a number of prominent elected positions, including as the first elected woman to the position of Iowa's Agriculture Secretary, and, in 2006, as the state's Lieutenant Governor. She also served two terms in the State Senate starting in 1992. Her family has owned and operated a farm in Monroe County for over 40 years.

"Our members know that partisan politics have no place in our great public schools which is why we support the NEA recommendation for Patty Judge for US Senate. She is committed to Iowa's students, professional educators and public schools and understands that even in lean economic times they are the resources that will lead us back to economic prosperity. Like the ISEA, Patty also believes it is important that our elected leaders follow the same laws as our citizens and has pledged that if she were in the Senate, she would call for a vote on the Supreme Court nominee," added Tammy Wawro, president of the Iowa State Education Association.

The NEA Fund for Children and Public Education provides direct financial support to candidates for president, the U.S. House, and the U.S. Senate who will fight to support teachers, staff, and students and improve public education. The ISEA is a private, professional organization made up of more than 34,000 educators who are dedicated to promoting and preserving public education for all Iowa students.
