GENESEO, NY (01/06/2012)(readMedia)-- Swain, N.Y., resident Eleanor J. Pfuntner, a janitor in SUNY Geneseo's facilities services department, has received the college's Gloria and Van Quaal Outstanding Quality Service Award for 2011. A 13-year employee of the college, she received the honor during the Division of Administration and Finance's recent recognition ceremony on campus.
The annual award recognizes an individual in the Division of Administration and Finance who has had a consistently high level of performance during his or her career, a recognizable and meaningful impact at the college, and who serves as a role model for others.
"The strong visual impression Geneseo makes on visitors, staff and students is greatly attributable to our highly professional janitorial and cleaning crews, and Eleanor exemplifies her fellow workers with consistently professional and meticulous work," said Jim Milroy, vice president for administration and finance at Geneseo. "Those nominating her noted the pride she takes in her work and the leadership she displays for her team. I am delighted to recognize Eleanor for her stellar service to the college."
The selection committee chose Pfuntner from five nominations this year. She received a certificate and a $1,000 check from the Geneseo Foundation.
The college established the award in 1997 through an endowment from the Geneseo Foundation in honor of the Quaals' many years of devoted service to the college and Geneseo community. Van Quaal was vice president emeritus of business affairs and finance at SUNY Geneseo before his death in 2005 at age 80.
Returning to campus to present the award this year was Geneseo's recently retired vice president of administration and finance, Kenneth Levison, who succeeded Quaal in the position and was instrumental in establishing the award.
