ALBANY, NY (02/08/2012)(readMedia)-- Since coming on board, The Goldstein Family Auto Group has set up depositories in each of their four dealerships to help collect cans and bottles from patrons, staff, and families, wanting to help the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands, New York. The cans and bottles turn into dollars for the organization to help care for and place the animals they have at the shelter.

This is the first time people have the opportunity to visit a Goldstein location near them rather than make the trip to the shelter in Menands, NY. With the help of the Goldstein family, MHHS hopes to break the $100,000 mark in this fundraising campaign. "The response has been so overwhelming that we are going to carry the campaign throughout 2012. People don't just recycle during the Superbowl, but all year long. This will be just one way for all of us at The Goldsein Family Auto Group to continue our support of the organization and the environment twelve months of the year." said the Goldstein family.

Last year the Society's "Empties for Animals" program generated over $74,000 in revenue. Individual members of the community, school groups and other organizations dropped off more than 925,000 cans and bottles. Volunteers sorted all those bottles and cans based upon the originating distributor, which in turn generated 8 cents per can/bottle instead of the regular 5-cent redemption fee paid at stores. Monies from the programs were used to benefit the more than 6,500 animals cared for by the Society in 2011.

People can drop off their cans and bottles to any of the four Goldstein locations:

Goldstein Subaru, 1754 Central Avenue, Albany

Goldstein Mitsubishi, 1673 Central Avenue, Albany
