CHESTERTOWN, MD (04/15/2013)(readMedia)-- Washington College is pleased to announce that Erika Dueñas '14 of West Hartford, CT presented her undergraduate research paper "TBI and Cognition: Cause for Concern" at the 119th annual meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association (EPA), held in New York City. EPA is the oldest of the regional arms of the American Psychological Association, and covers all colleges and universities from Rhode Island and Massachusetts through the mid-Atlantic and Washington, D.C. This paper, coauthored with Dr. George Spilich and several other students, examined the long-term effects of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) on the subjects' ability to identify and react to visual stimuli.

Dueñas, who studies biology and psychology, is a member of Psi Chi, the national psychology honor society, and Beta Beta Beta, the national biology honor society. She serves as a peer tutor for psychology courses and a teacher's assistant for a general biology lab. Dueñas is involved in the Trap and Skeet shooting club, Habitat for Humanity and club field hockey, of which she is Vice President. She graduated from Northwest Catholic High School.
