ALBANY, NY (11/18/2011)(readMedia)-- Anna Abramov, owner of European Tailoring and Alterations, moved her shop to a storefront location directly on North Pearl Street on Monday, November 14, 2011. For fifteen years, Abramov's shop was located inside the state owned Ten Eyck office building corridor providing tailoring, alterations and dry cleaning services to office tenants in downtown Albany. Monday's move technically keeps her shop at the same address, 40 North Pearl Street, but physically positions her as a storefront with increased exposure.
"New customers have already stopped in and inquired as to how long I've been at the location and what services I can provide for them," says Abramov.
Specializing in alterations, she holds the technical expertise to work with clients on everything from pants and suits to bridal gowns and party dresses. The business also offers dry cleaning services.
The new space offers increased room for clients coming and going into the shop entrance, as well as a larger private dressing room for fittings and sewing. Abramov estimates that the move will increase her sales by 30 percent over the coming year.
Originally from Russia, Abramov was a former music teacher in her native Belarus. She started in the tailoring and alteration business when she arrived in the United States.
"I had to move across the ocean to discover my true calling," Abramov remembers.
"We have anxiously awaited Anna's move and are happy to see another store front filled," said Georgette Steffens, Executive Director Downtown Albany Business Improvement District, "With residential on the rise in Downtown Albany, available day-to-day services are essential to the equation of creating a vibrant community."
The storefront space was previously occupied by an optician but had been a vacant storefront for over four years.
European Tailoring and Alterations is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at 40 North Pearl Street. For more information, please contact Anna Abramov at 518-433-1408.
