Executive Order Not A Substitue for Broad Election Reform, says Easy Elections NY

Statewide Coalition will continue to push for election reform

NEW YORK, NY (07/27/2017) (readMedia)-- The Easy Elections NY Coalition put out the following statement regarding the issuance of Executive Order #169:

"We're always glad to see the state take its responsibilities under the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 more seriously and to see that federal law's requirements voluntarily expanded to some additional agencies," said Susan Lerner of comn Cause/NY, a coalition member. ." How this order will be implemented and if it has any significant impact remains to be seen. The Governor's Executive Order is not, and should not be considered, a substitute for Automatic Voter Registration, which earlier this month became law in Rhode Island and which has been adopted administratively in numerous states.. This Executive Order also doesn't diminish the urgent need for legislation instituting Early Voting, Same Day Registration or Electronic Poll Books."
