BATAVIA, NY (11/11/2015)(readMedia)-- The Rosalie "Roz" Steiner Art Gallery at Genesee Community College will proudly display "Of Niagara: Works from the Gerald Mead Collection," an exhibit that features the work of artists who are current or former residents and/or educators in Niagara County. The show opens November 23, 2015, with two receptions and a guest lecture by Mr. Mead planned for Tuesday, December 1, 2015. The receptions are scheduled from 1:30 – 3:30, and from 5 – 7 p.m., and the lecture by Mr. Mead is at 12:30 p.m. in the Stuart Steiner Theatre. All events and the admission into the Gallery are free and open to the public.

Covering all media, the work ranges from an early 20th century watercolor by Raphael Beck, designer of the seal for the 1901 Pan-American Exposition, to a 2014 digital photograph by Joe Ziolkowski, current instructor of Photography at GCC. Each work has been selected from the extensive collection of Gerald Mead, noted artist, curator and collector.

Gerald Mead is an award winning artist, educator and former longtime curator at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center in Buffalo, NY. He has organized over 200 contemporary and historic exhibitions. Also a noted art collector, his private collection boasts over 950 artworks by artists associated with Western New York. Many thematic exhibitions from the Gerald Mead Collection have been displayed at college and university galleries as well as other public venues, including Daemen College in Amherst in 2014 and El Museo Gallery in Buffalo in 2015. Gerald currently teaches at SUNY Buffalo State College and is an independent curator.

"Of Niagara" will be displayed in the gallery from November 23 – December 19, 2015.
