Expanding Budget Negotiations to Reflect All New Yorkers

NEW YORK, NY (02/25/2015)(readMedia)-- Statement in response to Governor Cuomo including Senator Jeff Klein in Leadership Budget talks:

"Common Cause/NY has long decried the secretive three-men-in-a-room governance practice in Albany. No one is suggesting that the Governor negotiate the budget with all 213 members of the Legislature, but conducting budget negotiations with the leaders of both majority and minority conferences would assure that the budget finally adopted would be based on a broader and stronger consensus. ?Currently nearly half of the Senate and one-third of the Assembly are not at the table in budget negotiations. New Yorkers deserve better," said Susan Lerner, Common Cause NY.
