Experts, Community Examine Health Care Disparities, April 15 at Albany Medical College

Race and Ethnicity Cited for Health and Health Care Disparities in America

ALBANY, NY (04/15/2010)(readMedia)-- Family Planning Advocates of New York State and a group of concerned organizations will partner with Albany Medical College and URU The Right to Be in presenting The Deadliest Disease in America at Albany Medical College this evening of Thursday, April 15, 2010.

From 5 p.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m., participants will view The Deadliest Disease in America documentary chronicalling the impact race and ethnicity have on the quality of health care individuals receive and participate in workshops and a question and answer session.

Speakers include:

  • Dr. Grace Mose, director of the Immigrant Women's Health Initiative of The Education Fund of Family Planning Advocates of New York State
  • Carol Blowers, vice president for governmental affairs for Family Planning Advocates of New York State

Workshops include:

• Doctor/patient communications

• Empowering Community Organizations to Work with Legislators for Change

• What Racism Looks Like in the Health Care Delivery System Through the Lens of Cancer

Health care providers and consumers, community leaders and individuals interested in this issue are encouraged to attend.
