SPRINGFIELD, IL (02/20/2018) (readMedia)-- In honor of Women's History Month, Professor Shelby Harriel will share her research on the women from Illinois who volunteered disguised as men to fight for the Union Army during the Civil War. Learn about their lives before, after the war and as well as their time serving in the army disguised as men. The event will feature a presentation by Professor Harriel as well as tables displaying reproduction Civil War uniforms and equipment which will allow visitors to gain a better understanding of the rigors of army life during that time.
