First-of-its-Kind Program has N.C. Guard Instructors Teaching Provincial Recontruction Teams at Fort Bragg

FORT BRAGG, NC (03/16/2011)(readMedia)-- At the request of the U.S. Army, N.C. Army National Guard Regional Training Site Maintenance instructors at Fort Bragg are training members of Provincial Reconstruction Teams who will soon head to Afghanistan. Thirty-six active-duty U.S. Air Force Airmen and U.S. Navy Sailors are currently training.

Media are invited to observe training and interview trainees Thursday, March 17.

Instructors at the 139th Regiment's Regional Training Site-Maintenance on Fort Bragg designed the three-week course. U.S. military and multiple civilian government agencies like the State Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation make up each PRT. They do the dangerous work of rebuilding the region's security infrastructure, governance capabilities and economies.

WHO:

Maintenance instructors, as part of the N.C. National Guard Regional Training Site are training 36 active-duty U.S. Air Force Airmen and U.S. Navy Sailors to be members of Provincial Reconstruction Teams.

WHAT:

Observe trainees going through roll-over and vehicle recovery training in mud-filled "mire" pits. Trainees and instructors will be available for interview. The U.S. Army Chief of Ordnance will be also on site.
