Milstein, Chairman of the New York State Thruway Authority and New York State Canal Corporation announced today that Executive Director Michael Fleischer will be stepping down as the Chief Operating Officer of the 570-mile Thruway and the 524-mile Canal System on August 2 to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.
"The Board and I want to thank Michael for his leadership over the past eight years," Chairman Milstein said. "Under Michael's direction, the Authority has made important investments that were necessary to preserve and improve the Thruway and Canal infrastructure, and we wish him well in his new endeavor."
As Executive Director since 2003, Mr. Fleischer managed the day-to-day operations of the Authority. During his tenure the Authority completed several E-ZPass improvements, enhanced customer service, and implemented operational efficiencies.
"Michael is well respected both inside and outside of the Thruway and Canal System for his good judgment, professional demeanor and commitment to public service. On behalf of the Board I want to thank Michael for all his efforts," Chairman Milstein said.
Prior to his Thruway service, Mr. Fleischer served as First Deputy Commissioner at the New York State Department of Transportation.
Michael Fleischer said "I want to thank Governor Cuomo, Chairman Milstein, and the Thruway Authority and Canal Corporation Board for the support and direction that they have provided. It has been a true privilege and honor to serve for more than eight years with the men and women who work every day to improve the travel and recreational experiences for the users of the 570-mile Thruway and the 524-mile Canal System."
Mr. Fleischer, a licensed attorney, received a law degree from the Western New England School of Law in Springfield, Mass. He lives with his wife Alicia and their five children in East Greenbush, New York.
