Flurry of Anti Choice Legislation Proposed in United States

NYS Legislators Must Take a Stand for Women's Reproductive Choice!

ALBANY, NY (08/08/2007)(readMedia)-- “Amidst the recent flurry of anti-choice legislation being proposed across the country, Ohio Representative Republican John Adams proposed legislation (H.B. No. 287) that would authorize the government to investigate women as to who may have fathered their unwanted fetuses, thereafter awarding to the winning male the rights to force those women to continue their unwanted pregnancies.

We of the National Organization for Women-New York State (NOW-NYS) are completely appalled by this draconian effort to establish men's and boys' control over women's reproductive lives. In fact, the Adams bill cleanly crystallizes the US right wing's stated goal to impose on women of all faiths a Bible-based, government-enforced male dominance.

If men wish to avoid abortions, they should wear condoms. And the State should concern itself with the health and welfare of existing children, rather than mandating the existence of more such offspring.

And to insure that nothing resembling this misogynist bill is ever introduced in New York State, citizens of this state should support NY Assemblywoman Pat Eddington's bill A#8626, the Women's Reproductive Domain Act and Governor Spitzer’s Women’s Reproductive Health and Privacy Protection Act, to establish women's complete control over their own reproductive lives.”
