National Organization for Women-New York State PAC Endorses Martine Guerrier for NYS Assembly 57AD
ALBANY, NY (09/10/2012)(readMedia)-- NOW NYS PAC is proud to endorse Martine Guerrier for NYS Assembly, 57AD.
Guerrier is a NYC public school parent and an acknowledged education policy expert. She is also the child of Haitian immigrants. She graduated from NYC public high school, Townsend Harris HS @ Queens College.
Martine is a life-long pro-choice advocate and has been an active participant in NYC civic life for over 12 years. Martine has participated in public actions to protect women's reproductive rights and to demand pay equality legislation at the State and federal levels.
Martine served the families and the education community of the 57th AD as a publicly elected member of Community School Board 13. She was elected the President of the Community School Board and worked with local parent leaders to organize mothers to take on leadership in the community and fight for safety and health concerns. She was a strong leader within and member of the Junior League of Brooklyn. As a member of the Junior League she worked on initiatives to support women and children who experienced domestic abuse and violence. It was through that work that Martine became an advocate for protecting women fleeing domestic violence and fighting for their rights and children In divorce cases.
In 2007 she became the first Chief Family Engagement Officer for NYC public schools creating the Office for Family Engagement and Advocacy, managing a $12M+ budget and 70+ staff members across the city. She created various publications (RISE newsletter, NYC Family Guide, OFEA Annual Report ) and a number of signature initiatives (SchoolSourceNYC, Children's Day Parades, Saturday Parent Academy, Native Language Forums), which engaged and directly served families, especially those in need of translation services.
