BATAVIA, NY (01/09/2019) New York City is considered by many to be the fashion capital of the world. From Fashion Weeks to its famous garment district and the rich and diverse population of the Big Apple, fashion is everywhere. New York City is also home to one of the leading fashion schools in the country, the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). With so many career opportunities in this industry, it is no surprise that fashion-passionate students are drawn downstate.

However, for most, cost is also an important factor to consider. Not just tuition, but groceries, rent, utilities and transportation all add up, quickly. The cost of living in Manhattan, NY is 68% higher than the national average; however the cost of living in Batavia, NY is 23% less than the national average.

Batavia is the home of Genesee Community College (GCC) who announced this week the addition of two new articulation agreements for students seeking a Bachelor of Science from FIT. One of these agreements allow a student who earns an Associate in Applied Science in Fashion Business with a concentration in Fashion Merchandising Management at GCC to seamlessly transfer all of their 64-67 credits to be applied to a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Products Development at FIT.

The second new agreement stems from the same Fashion Merchandising Management concentration at GCC and allows all of their 63-66 earned credits to transfer and be applied to a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Development and Marketing at FIT. Details on GCC's Fashion Merchandising Management concentration are available at www.genesee.edu/academics/programs/business/fashion-merchandising/.

Students who complete their first two years of college at Genesee Community College and then transfer to a four-year State University of New York (SUNY) school, save an average of $5,440. Add cost of living savings of nearly 92% (between Batavia and New York City) for two full years and students will have the same high quality education, have earned two degrees-their associate from GCC, their bachelor's from FIT, all while avoiding substantial student loan debt!

GCC maintains more than 200 transfer agreements with numerous four-year colleges and universities, all helping to ensure students maximize their tuition dollar investment, gain meaningful experience and earn a high-quality education in the field of study they are passion about. Details and frequently asked questions regarding GCC's transfer services are available at www.genesee.edu/offices/transfer/ and the complete list of articulation and dual admissions agreements is available at www.genesee.edu/home/offices/transfer/transfer-information/.
