Food Marketing Students Recognized by Genuardi's

PHILADELPHIA, PA (05/06/2011)(readMedia)-- The Genuardi Family Foundation has awarded two Saint Joseph's University students academic scholarships. The awards, in honor of the Genuardi brothers, were given to sophomores in the food marketing program and will go toward the students' remaining tuition at SJU.

Katelyn Harvey, a graduate of the former Saint Pius X High School in Pottstown, Pa., and Mary Sisti, a graduate of Manasquan High School in Manasquan, N.J., were both recognized with $10,000 scholarships.

The Genuardi Family Foundation makes it a point to invest in and improve the communities that were essential to the success of the Genuardi Family Markets when the family owned and operated the regional business.

Recipients of the award embody this dedication to community, which the Foundation stresses. In addition to her academic work, Harvey plans the University's annual Thanksgiving Dinner Dance with local senior citizens. Sisti spends a large amount of her time tutoring elementary school students and she also serves on the executive board of the University's National Community Day.

Both students plan to pursue careers in the food industry. Harvey hopes to parlay her co-op and travel abroad experience into a career in food or consumer packaged goods. Upon graduation, Sisti's desire is to travel the U.S. while educating school-aged children on the merits of eating healthy and maintaining an active lifestyle. Receiving this scholarship award will help each student finish her college career and move closer to her goal.

Robert Higgins, executive director of the Academy of Food Marketing at Saint Joseph's, expressed his gratitude for the students' acknowledgement by the Genuardi family.

"The Genuardi Foundation has been supporting the food marketing scholarship program for 10 years, and is the largest per year scholarship in the entire food marketing program," says Higgins. "We are very grateful for the Genuardi Family's support."
