Founder of ClickAid to Speak at Emma Willard School

TROY, NY (09/16/2008)(readMedia)--

How do young women use the power of their intellect and the energy of their passion to make positive change in today’s world?

On September 27, Emma Willard School will host a symposium, “Women, Power, and Possibility,” that will explore this question. The symposium, the second in a series, will consist of a panel of young women already making their mark around the globe. They will examine the issues and contemplate the many possibilities that emerge when women translate their beliefs into action with commitment and conviction.

Neelam Mehta, a 1993 graduate of Emma Willard School and founder of ClickAid, will serve on the panel for the symposium. Founded in 2002, ClickAid, working in partnership with Non-Profit Computing, Inc., is a nonprofit organization that collects and organizes obsolete and unwanted computer technology and donates the equipment to groups and charities in underdeveloped nations around the world. ClickAid has sent thousands of computers to schools, hospitals, job training centers, literacy programs, and people with disabilities.

Over the past six years, Neelam Mehta has honed the laborious process to a tight, efficient operation; setting up trucking schedules, securing recovery costs, monitoring inventory, arranging for equipment testing, contracting labor, coordinating volunteers, and processing the elaborate regulations surrounding international shipments. Throughout, she traverses the delicate middle ground between donors’ needs and recipients’ needs with a blend of affable charisma, upbeat diplomacy, and dogged resourcefulness.
