SPRINGFIELD, IL (08/07/2017) (readMedia)-- Col. Mark C. Jackson of Frankfort, Illinois, a former brigade commander, a retired Illinois State Police officer and a combat veteran, was promoted to brigadier general during a ceremony at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois, August 5.

Jackson was selected as the deputy to Maj. Gen. Michael Zerbonia, the full-time Assistant Adjutant General – Army, Illinois National Guard, earlier this year, replacing Brig. Gen. Alicia Tate-Nadeau after her retirement.

Jackson said he was proud to continue to serve the Soldiers of the Illinois Army National Guard in a new capacity.

Jackson was pinned by his wife, Deanna Jackson; son Tyler and godson Mitchell Vanderweil.

He thanked those in attendance, as well as the many in his career that mentored him.

"I'm extremely humbled and grateful for this opportunity," said Jackson. "As long as I'm here, I will continue to serve you, the Soldiers of this state, and help you succeed."
